The 5 best locations in Darwin for a photo shoot
So you’ve decided to have a photo shoot! Congratulations! Whether you’re having a family portrait session, a maternity session or wedding photos, one of the first things to think about is the shoot location.
As a natural light photographer, my goal is to use the beauty of our environment and the light and shadow to make you look amazing as you are.
A great location makes all the difference and there are heaps of great spots across Darwin, Palmerston and the rural area. It’s hard to narrow it down but I’ve picked five of my favourites!
My top 5 locations are:
The Pine Forest, Howard Springs
The Pine Forest at Howard Springs is an absolutely stunning backdrop for a session. The natural light, the earthy colours and the lack of distractions makes it ideal for a family shoot, maternity shoot or even wedding photos.
As you can see from Chloe’s stunning maternity image above, the dark trunks of the trees almost fade away and the filtered light through the trees gives an almost ethereal quality to your photos.
These images look beautiful when printed and make everyone look great.
Casuarina Beach
Casuarina Beach is perfect for a shoot where you’d like to be close to the ocean. The blues and greens of the water, the brilliant whites of the sand and the setting sun make for a brilliant backdrop.
You can stay on the sand, get in the water or use the trees along the shoreline as your playground. It’s one of my favourite places to do family and wedding sessions. There are plenty of great options on the coastline that make for gorgeous photos.
Gardens Golf Links
Whether you’re a golfer on not, the Gardens golf course makes for a fantastic shoot location. In particular, the majestic trees that line the golf course and the road give the look of a thick forest without you ever having to leave the city.
The lovely green of the golf course in the background coupled with the light filtering through these grand old trees is great for a wedding shoot, intimate couples shoot, or a cute family session.
East Point
You can’t really go past East Point for a picturesque location can you? It’s so versatile! It has the obvious beachside locations that surround it but also open grassed areas, mangroves, rocks and cliffs, playgrounds, hidden tracks through the trees, the war ruins and even PeeWees restaurant.
There are so many different spots across the East Point reserve that it can look like you’ve been all over Darwin without even getting in your car
Your Home
There really is no better location to let everyone be themselves than your own home. We can record your family as they are right now in the environment they are most comfortable. You don’t have to have a fancy house or a manicured backyard; just bring yourself and your smiles and I’ll do the rest.
My favourite shoots at home are lifestyle newborn shoots, where I photograph you and your baby as you are. No strict poses; just you and your little family being together.
